El Palomino

April 29, 2010

Oloroso sherry
209 gin
strawberry
sparkling white wine

Muddle a medium strawberry. Combine all but the sparkling wine, shake and fine-strain into a champagne flute. Top with sparkling wine. Garnish with a lemon twist.

This cocktail has a classic aperitif profile: Clean and crisp, but with enough intriguing herbal-fruit notes to really wake up your appetite. The name comes from the Palomino Fino grape from which sherry is made.

London Buck

April 27, 2010

Boodle's gin
lemon juice
Bundaberg ginger beer

Build in a collins glass. Garnish with a lemon ribbon.

Like a Dark and Stormy, but not so dark. Love the gin/ginger combo.

Ginger Rogers

April 25, 2010

Hendrick's gin
Canton ginger liqueur
lime juice
mint

Gently muddle the mint, then build in a pilsner glass. Roll a few times and top with soda water. Garnish with a sprig of mint.

We took Absinthe's recipe and tweaked it a bit with the Canton. Stealing is fun!

Mmmmmm.... ginny!

Post Script

April 14, 2010

Hendrick's gin
Yellow Chartreuse
Luxardo Maraschino
lime juice
strawberry

Muddle the strawberry, shake, fine-strain into a cocktail glass. No garnish.

Yes, this is a play on the Last Word, but we backed off the liqueurs and used yellow in place of green Chartreuse to let the strawberry shine.

Genevive

April 11, 2010

Anchor Distilling Genevieve
Vya dry vermouth
Luxardo maraschino liqueur
Small Hand Food pineapple gum syrup
strawberry
lemon juice
Angostura bitters

Muddle strawberry, shake the rest and fine-strain into an ice-filled bucket. Garnish with a sprig of mint.

This ain't no sissy drink! Genevieve is something to contemplate rather than quaff... this one is herbal, fruity, and complex. Amatures need not apply.

Aviation

April 5, 2010

Beefeater gin
Luxardo maraschino liqueur
lemon juice

Shake, fine-strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a brandied cherry.

One of the best classic cocktails ever.

Coquette

April 4, 2010

Beefeater gin
grapefruit
tarragon
simple syrup
Angostura bitters

Muddle the tarragon and grapefruit chunks. Shake ingredients and strain into a collins glass. Top with soda and garnish with a grapefruit ribbon.

Great combination of bitter, sweet and herbaceous.

Classy Lassy

April 1, 2010

Miller's gin
lime juice
egg white
orange flower water
Bitter Truth grapefruit bitters
simple syrup

Dry shake. Shake and strain into a chilled rocks glass. Top with tonic water and garnish with an orange ribbon.

Gotta love anything with gin, citrus, egg white and bubbles.

The Lemon Song

March 31, 2010

209 gin
lemon juice
clementine juice
meyer lemon syrup
Kubler absinthe

Spray a cocktail glass with absinthe. Shake ingredients and fine-strain into the glass. Garnish with a brandied cherry.

A little twist on the Corpse Reviver #2, with clementine and meyer syrup subbing for the Cointreau and Lillet. Deeee-lish!

Queen Bee

March 14, 2010

209 gin
Meyer lemon juice
honey
Angostura bitters

Shake and fine-strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a lemon chip.

This is a slight variation on the classic Bee’s Knees. We just made it with Meyer lemon and added the bitters.

Praying Mantis

March 11, 2010

Bombay dry gin
celery juice
lime juice
simple syrup

Shake and strain into a bucket. Garnish with a thin celery stalk.

This one was a no-brainer. It's simple, light and refreshing.

Teetotaler

March 4, 2010

Boodles gin
Benedictine
lemon juice
dry white wine
Earl Grey tea syrup

Shake and fine-strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a ribbon of bergamot peel.

As you may know, "teetotaler" refers to those who abstain from drinking alcohol. Ohhh the irony...

Barnum

February 28, 2010

Beefeater gin
Marie Brizard Apry
lemon juice
Angostura bitters

Shake and fine-strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a lemon ribbon.

This is a twist on the classic Pegu Club which uses orange curacao instead of the Apry, and lime instead of lemon. Nice citrus hit with a beautifully balanced finish.

Pearfecta

February 24, 2010

Hendrick's gin
St. George Spirits pear eau-de-vie
Dolin dry vermouth
Fee Brothers grapefruit bitters

Stir and serve in a cocktail glass. Garnish with a lemon ribbon.

This is what a "pear-tini" should be. Clean, dry and elegant. Actually, the only cocktail name that should end with "-tini" is the MAR-tini.

Valencia Favorite

February 19, 2010

Plymouth gin
Laird's Applejack
Dubonnet
Noily Pratt dry vermouth
Angostura bitters
Peychaud's bitters

Stir and serve in a chilled rocks glass (no ice). Garnish with an orange ribbon.

This makes an excellent aperitif. It has a great balance between the sweetness of the Dubonnet and the herbal notes of the Plymouth and Noily Pratt.

Awsome 'Possum

February 18, 2010

Hendrick's gin
apple cider
lemon juice
Small Hand Foods gum syrup
egg white
thyme

Dry shake everything but the thyme. Add ice and shake thoroughly. Fine-strain into a chilled rocks glass and garnish with a sprig of fresh thyme.

This one was a simple, tart, frothy refresher. Remember to slap fresh herbs to bring their aromatics to life. Oh, and thanks to Skinny Head for the name... I loved telling it to guests all night.

Dandelion

February 2, 2010

Hendrick's gin
blood orange juice
lemon juice
egg white

Dry shake, shake with ice, and fine-strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a blood orange half-moon.

This was a special request repeat Range cocktail for a buy-out that night. Oddly enough everyone drank a ton of Jack Daniels. Go figure...
