Short Story

April 23, 2010

Siete Leguas reposado tequila
Luxardo maraschino liqueur
lemon juice
grapefruit juice
Peychaud's bitters

Shake all but the bitters, strain into a bucket. Dash some bitters on the surface, and garnish with triangles of grapefruit.

This is a little tequila twist on the Hemmingway, plus a bit-o-bitters.

Brooklyn

April 16, 2010

Rittenhouse 100 proof rye
Luxardo Maraschino
Amer Picon
Dolin dry vermouth

Stir and strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with an orange ribbon.

This was Brooke's last cocktail of the day at Range, and we made about 8000 of 'em. We're gonna miss you Brooke!

Post Script

April 14, 2010

Hendrick's gin
Yellow Chartreuse
Luxardo Maraschino
lime juice
strawberry

Muddle the strawberry, shake, fine-strain into a cocktail glass. No garnish.

Yes, this is a play on the Last Word, but we backed off the liqueurs and used yellow in place of green Chartreuse to let the strawberry shine.

Strawberry Tickle

April 12, 2010

George Dickel whiskey
Luxardo maraschino liqueur
lemon juice
strawberry
Crofter's pomegranate jam

Muddle strawberry with the jam. Shake it up, and fine strain it into a chilled rocks glass (no ice). Garnish with an orange ribbon.

Crazy complex, despite the simple ingredients. Go Brookie!!!!!

Genevive

April 11, 2010

Anchor Distilling Genevieve
Vya dry vermouth
Luxardo maraschino liqueur
Small Hand Food pineapple gum syrup
strawberry
lemon juice
Angostura bitters

Muddle strawberry, shake the rest and fine-strain into an ice-filled bucket. Garnish with a sprig of mint.

This ain't no sissy drink! Genevieve is something to contemplate rather than quaff... this one is herbal, fruity, and complex. Amatures need not apply.

Cerbois armagnac
Cointreau

Bumble Bee

January 30, 2010

Flor de Caña 4 year rum
Luxardo maraschino liqueur
lime juice
honey
egg white
Angostura bitters

Dry shake. Add ice and shake more. Fine strain into a cocktail glass and garnish with a few more drops of Angostura.

This is a classic that we tweaked with a little Luxardo. Fragrant, tart and silky on the palate.

The Apprentice

November 5, 2009

Old Overholt rye whiskey
Drambuie
Luxardo Maraschino liqueur

Peychaud's bitters

Shake it and fine strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a star anise pod.

Layers of complexity in this one, but it still goes down easy!

Weekend Warrior

October 24, 2009

Tito's vodka
Luxardo maraschino liqueur
mint
lime juice
sugar

Shake all ingredients (no need to muddle), then fine strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a mint leaf.

This simple concoction is a great way to introduce people to the wonders of Luxardo. It's powerful stuff, though, so only use around 1/4 ounce. Too much, and it becomes medicinal; too little, and it gets lost in the mint and lime.

Bensonhurst

October 20, 2009

Old Overholt rye whiskey
Cynar
Luxardo Maraschino
Noilly Prat dry vermouth

Stir. Serve up without a garnish.

We lifted this one from PDT in New York, NY. It's a variation of the Brooklyn Cocktail with Cynar standing in for Amer Picon, and is named after the predominantly Italian-American section of Brooklyn.

Laird & Company Applejack
Luxardo Maraschino liqueur
lemon juice
powdered sugar

The Last Word

September 10, 2009

Beefeater gin
Luxardo maraschino liqueur
Green Chartreuse
lime juice

Shake, fine strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a brandied cherry.

Sometimes we like to pull out one of our favorite classics as the cocktail of the day. Along with the Negroni--- which we all agree is one of the best cocktails ever--- The Last Word is the drink that we just can't get enough of.

Cat's Eye

July 9, 2009

Flor de Caña silver rum
honeydew melon
lime juice
Luxardo Maraschino liqueur

Shake, fine strain, and serve up. Garnish with a lime wedge.

It's funny. The previous night's melon drink, "The Palindrome", took a lot of tweaking before we got the proportions just right, yet we hit this one on the first try. I suppose simplicity wins almost every time.
