Garden State

May 11, 2010

Square One botanical vodka
Aperol
Dolin sweet vermouth
lime juice

Shake and fine-strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a grapefruit ribbon.

Great balanced flavor, with a little nod to the ol' Negroni.

The Red Hot

April 3, 2010

Rhum Barbancourt 8 year
Aperol
lime juice
strawberry
blood orange

Muddle 1/2 a strawberry with a few chunks of blood orange. Combine ingredients, shake and strain into a rocks glass. Garnish with a blood orange wheel.

Nothing hot about this cool, delicious, daiquiri-esque beverage. I'll take eleven, please.

Show-stopper

March 23, 2010

Flor de Caña silver rum
Aperol
lime juice
quince syrup

Shake and fine-strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a lemon wedge.

This one reminds me of an old Range classic, The Romantic, which used Santa Teresa rum, and simple syrup in place of the quince syrup.

Kentucky Sunset

March 6, 2010

Old Overholt rye whiskey
Canton ginger liqueur
Aperol

Shake everything except the Aperol and strain into a collins glass. Top with a little Aperol and garnish with a long orange ribbon.

Purdy!!

Heartthrob

Valentine's Day, 2010

Hangar One Mandarin Blossom vodka
Aperol
blood orange juice
simple syrup
Vouvray brut sparkling wine

Shake everything but the wine. Strain into a champagne flute and top with Vouvray. Garnish with a blood orange half-moon.

On that special day, what's better than something sweet, bitter, pink and bubbly?

Winter Breeze

February 8, 2010

Gosling's Black Seal Rum
Aperol
tangerine juice
lemon juice
lavender honey

Shake and strain over ice in a bucket. Garnish with a lemon ribbon.

Gotta love tangerines and rum!

Red Leaf

February 3, 2010

Pueblo Viejo silver tequila
Aperol
blood orange juice
lime juice
agave nectar
mint

Shake and fine-strain over ice in a bucket. Garnish with a sprig of mint.

Just the right balance of citrus, bitter and refreshing mint. This one might make the cocktail list.

T Rex

January 22, 2010

Arette reposado tequila
Aperol
lime juice
blood orange juice
Small Hand Foods gum syrup

Shake everything but the blood orange juice and strain into a pilsner glass. Add a bit of soda and squeeze half of a blood orange on top. Garnish with a lime wheel.

Owners Phil and Cameron West brought their son Sam in to celebrate his second birthday, and since it was a dinosaur-themed birthday we went with a dinosaur-themed drink name. We also all wore temporary tattoos of dinosaurs. Mine was a Triceratops.

The Gary

December 5, 2009

Zubrowka Bison Grass vodka
St. Germain elderflower liqueur
pomegranate juice
Aperol
lemon juice

Shake it up and strain into an ice-filled bucket. Garnish with pomegranate seeds.

We were closed for a private party. It was Gary's 70th birthday, and we made about 8000 of these cool beverages for his family and friends. Happy birthday!

The Tutu

November 6, 2009

Flor de Caña 4 year rum
Saint Germain elderflower liqueur
Aperol
lime juice
egg white
Peychaud's bitters

Dry shake, then add ice and shake until the shaker frosts over. Fine strain into a cocktail glass and shake a few drops of Peychaud's on the foam as garnish.

Like a fluffy, upscale daiquiri.

212

October 15, 2009

Pueblo Viejo silver tequila
Aperol
grapefruit juice

Shake it up and strain into a collins glass. Garnish with a long grapefruit ribbon.

We got this one from New York mixologist, Willy Shine. "212" is not only a nod to NYC, but it's also the proportions of the drink. Clever guy, that Mr. Shine!

The Romantic

October 8, 2009

Santa Teresa solera rum
Aperol
lime juice
simple syrup

Combine ingredients, shake and serve up. Garnish with a lime wheel.

This is a Range classic created by Mike Lafrenier. Think of it as a sophisticated daiquiri.

Sweet Heat

August 30, 2009

Barsol pisco
Aperol
watermelon
serano chilie
lime juice

Muddle watermelon, combine ingredients, fine-strain and serve up. Garnish with a terragon leaf.

Nothing like sweet, tart and spicy to help you cool off on a hot San Francisco night.

The Dame

August 19, 2009

Miller's gin
Vin de Peche
Aperol
Angostura bitters

Stir and serve up. Garnish with a lemon twist.

The Vin de Peche was made in house by infusing Cotes du Rhone with peach leaves, then fortifying with brandy and sugar. The resulting liqueur is velvety sweet with a faintly bitter finish. The cocktail? Think: Negroni.

Aperol Fizz

August 3, 2009

Aperol
Bluecoat gin
lemon
egg white

Shake, and serve in a collins glass. Top with soda and float some brandied cherry syrup. Garnish with a grapefruit ribbon.

Remember: The key to a good fizz is the shake. If your shaker isn't frosted, you're not finished shaking!

Hot African Nights

July 2, 2009

Rittenhouse Rye 100
Canton ginger liqueur
Meyer's lemon juice
Walnut cordial (Eli's own concoction)
Aperol
Angostura bitters

Shake and fine strain into a collins glass. Garnish with a slice of fresh ginger.

This is Eli's final cocktail of the day before he goes off to Africa (cue: violins and sighs). We're gonna miss that low-talkin'-bed-headed-abstract-thinkin'-wolf-shirt-wearin' guy...
