Jack Horner

May 16, 2010

Flor de Cana 4 year rum
La Guitana manzanilla sherry
St. Germain elderflower liqueur
Persian Green plum
lemon juice

Muddle the plum, combine ingredients, shake and fine-strain into a collins glass. Garnish with a lemon half-moon.

I saw these little cherry-sized plums at the farmer's market and just couldn't resist. They have a sour, very green taste which adds a nice amount of acid and spring flavor.

Siete Leguas silver tequila
Torani Amer
mandarin chunk
meyer lemon syrup
lime juice
Angostura bitters

Muddle the mandarin. Shake and fine-strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a lime half-moon.

Refreshing like a margarita, but a bit more complex.

Carpano Antica sweet vermouth
Campari

A delicious way to say goodbye to citrus season.

Miller's gin
Pimm's No.1
lemon juice
cucumber
strawberry
simple syrup
ginger beer

Muddle strawberry and cucumber, combine ingredients (except the ginger beer), shake and strain into a collins glass. Top with ginger beer and garnish with a lemon wedge and mint sprig.

Brooke came back and brought her tasty twist on the classic. Ohhhh so good!

Garden State

May 11, 2010

Square One botanical vodka
Aperol
Dolin sweet vermouth
lime juice

Shake and fine-strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a grapefruit ribbon.

Great balanced flavor, with a little nod to the ol' Negroni.

Seelbach Cocktail

May 10, 2010

Buffalo Trace bourbon
tangelo-meyer lemon syrup
Angostura bitters
Peychaud's bitters
sparkling wine

Shake all but the sparkling wine and fine-strain into a flute. Top with sparkling and garnish with an orange twist.

Taken from the pages of Mr. Boston's, this one was surprisingly balanced and complex.

Mama Mia

May 9, 2010

Tito's vodka
St. Germain elderflower liqueur
Campari
lemon juice

Shake and strain into a collins glass. Top with sparkling rose and garnish with a lemon ribbon.

Happy Mother's Day to all you moms out there. To everyone else: Did you remember to call your mom?

May 8, 2010

Appleton rum
Cruzan aged rum
lime juice
spiced simple syrup
tangelo-meyer syrup
orgeat

Shake and strain into a bucket. Garnish with spent lime half and a sprig of mint.

One of the many Mai Tai variations. Yum!

Pony Boy

May 7, 2010

Flor de Cana 4 year rum
Gosling's Black Seal rum
fig-tarragon shrub
lime juice
Angostura bitters

Shake and strain into a collins glass. Garnish with a lime wedge.

In the simplest terms, a "shrub" is a syrup made with sugar, vinegar, and some sort of fruit, and was originally utilized as a method of preservation. Brooke left us with a delicious shrub, and we finally got around to using it. Damn tasty stuff!!

May 6, 2010

Flor de Cana 7 year rum
Santa Teresa Rhum Orange liqueur
mandarin
lemon
Regan's orange bitters

Muddle the mandarin. Shake and strain into a collins glass. Garnish with a peeled mandarin wedge.

Juicy, juicy, juicy. So juicy that we thought of Squeeze... you know, the 80s band that wrote "Tempted" as in "...by the fruit of another". Oh yeah. Goin' back.

Cinco de Mayo!!!

May 5, 2010

Arette reposado tequila
lime juice

Southern Belle

May 2, 2010

Buffalo Trace bourbon
Marie Brizard Apry
lemon juice
mint simple syrup

Shake, fine-strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a small lemon ribbon.

Mint simple syrup is a great alternative to muddling. Just make a 1:1 simple syrup and bring to a simmer. Remove from the heat and toss in a handful of mint and allow to cool. Strain out the mint, and ta-dah!

The Derby

May 1, 2010

Buffalo Trace bourbon
Dolin sweet vermouth
Combier orange liqueur
lemon juice
angostura bitters

Shake and fine-strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a mint sprig.

This is a lesser known version of the Derby. The more common version is a stirred concoction featuring bourbon, Benedictine, and angostura. We felt like rolling it out for the Kentucky Derby, while rejecting the obvious choice of the Mint Julep. That's how we roll.

Jackpot

April 30, 2010

Tito's vodka
Plymouth sloe gin
Small Hand Foods pineapple gum syrup
lemon juice
Angostura bitters

Shake and strain into a bucket. Garnish with a short lemon ribbon.

Yeah, it sounds like a bit of a kitchen-sink cocktail, but it works. The staff did a great job selling it, especially considering that many people don't know that sloe gin isn't very 'ginny' tasting at all... a fact I'm sure the servers got tired of explaining.
