Pomme Pomme

September 27, 2009

Bulleit bourbon
Aberlour single malt scotch
Bates & Schmitt apple cider syrup
Dubonnet
Summerfeld apple
lemon
ginger

Muddle apple and ginger. Combine ingredients, shake, and strain into an ice-filled bucket. Garnish with a slice of ginger.

Yes, there are a lot of ingredients here. But the results are damn good! Spicy-crisp sweetness and smoky heat add up to a perfect fall cocktail. Look for it on the list soon!

Sinners & Saints

September 26, 2009

Tito's vodka
Lillet blanc
cinnamon bitters
saffron-cardamom bitters
Angostura orange bitters

Shake it up and fine strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a lemon ribbon.

Soft and sinister.

Q-75

September 25, 2009

Square One Cucumber Vodka
Saint Germain elderflower liqueur
lime juice
simple syrup

Combine ingredients, shake and fine strain into a champagne flute. Top with sparkling wine.

A little twist on the ol' French 75. Gotta love the Square One vodka. Subtle, balanced, and real.

Mission Buck

September 24, 2009

Miller's gin
Lillet blanc
lemon juice
cantaloupe
ginger

Muddle the ginger and cantaloupe. Combine ingredients, shake, and fine strain into a collins glass. Top with ginger beer and garnish with a thin slice of ginger.

Remember: Anything with ginger can be called a "buck". This one has the double kick of fresh ginger and ginger beer.

Sidewinder

September 23, 2009

George Dickel Tennessee whiskey
Kubler absinthe
lemon juice
egg white
Fee Brothers Whiskey Barrel Bitters

Combine and dry shake. Add ice and shake some more. Fine strain into a chilled rocks glass and garnish with a chip of lemon.

This is a slight variation on the Savoy Cocktail Book's "Rattlesnake". We used more absinthe and added the bitters to add complexity. Look for a version of this on the fall cocktail menu!

Bitter Maestro

September 22, 2009

Rittenhouse rye whiskey
Amaro Nonino
Apple Jack
Carpano Antica
Small Hand Foods grenadine

Combine ingredients, stir and serve up. Garnish with a lemon twist.

Southern Belle

September 21, 2009

Flor de Cana 7 year rum
lemon juice
cane syrup
Fee Brothers peach bitters

Shake it up, strain into a collins glass and top with iced black tea. Garnish with a lime wheel.

Arnold Palmer's got nothin' on this one. Take that, golf-boy!

Maritime

September 20, 2009

Sailor Jerry's spiced rum
Hidalgo manzanilla sherry
lime juice
thyme

Muddle a sprig of thyme. Combine ingredients, shake and fine strain over ice in a bucket. Garnish with a drizzle of Cinzano sweet vermouth.

Herbs and spice and everything nice. Nice and boozy, that is!!

Black Verbena Fizz

September 18, 2009

Plymouth gin
blackberry syrup
lemon verbena syrup
lemon juice
egg white

Combine ingredients and dry shake. Shake with ice and fine strain into a collins glass and top with soda water. No garnish needed.

Just about the most delicious fizz ever!

Giovanni

September 17, 2009

Flor de Cana 4 year rum
Averna
apple cider
lemon juice
Bundaberg ginger beer

Shake up everything except the ginger beer, and strain into a collins glass. Top with ginger beer and garnish with a slice of green apple.

This is a variation on "The Johnny Appleseed" cocktail we did last year. Averna made it better, and since it's Italian, we had to go with the Italian equivalent of "Johnny". Yeah... sometimes we get desperate for a name.

Ladie's Night

September 16, 2009

Ketel One vodka
Saint Germain elderflower liqueur
raspberries
Small Hand Foods pineapple gum syrup
lemon juice
orange juice

Combine ingredients, shake and strain into a bucket. Top with a bit of champagne.

This was a big seller.... with the ladies of course. For some reason the guys weren't havin' it.

Old Faithful

September 15, 2009

McClelland's highland scotch
Vin de Peche
Small Hand Foods pineapple gum syrup
lemon juice

Shake it and fine strain into a cocktail glass. No garnish needed.

This is a variation of the "Faithful Scotsman", a cocktail created at New York bar, Death & Co.

Henry Hudson

September 14, 2009

Miller's gin
Hidalgo manzanilla sherry
Niebla grape
housemade blackberry syrup
lemon juice
Angostura bitters

Muddle the grape, combine ingredients, fine strain into a bucket. Garnish with a lemon ribbon.

Na Na Na Na

September 13, 2009

Plymouth gin
Pernod
strawberry
lemon juice
orange juice
Small Hand Foods gum syrup

Muddle strawberry with a bar spoon of Pernod. Combine ingredients, shake and fine strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a pinch of fennel pollen.

This one starts and ends with a subtle hint of anise, but rounds out with a kick of gin and fruit. Not as girly as it sounds!

The Nebula

September 12, 2009

Tito's vodka
Green Chartreuse
Concorde grapes
basil
lemon juice

Muddle the grapes and basil, combine ingredients, shake and fine strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a lemon ribbon.

We were surprised to find that these grapes yielded a vivid fuchsia color despite the fact that they were a dull, blackish color. The Chartreuse punched up the basil just enough to create a subtle herbal note to liven up the citrus-sweetness.

Saturday, September 12, 2009

Vin de Pamplemousse

September 11, 2009

Square 1 vodka
dry white wine
grapefruit juice
lemon juice
vanilla simple syrup

Combine, shake, and serve in a bucket. Garnish with a thin grapefruit slice.

The Pamplemousse was one of the longest running cocktails on our list, and people still request is almost nightly, so why not give it a little cameo?

The Last Word

September 10, 2009

Beefeater gin
Luxardo maraschino liqueur
Green Chartreuse
lime juice

Shake, fine strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a brandied cherry.

Sometimes we like to pull out one of our favorite classics as the cocktail of the day. Along with the Negroni--- which we all agree is one of the best cocktails ever--- The Last Word is the drink that we just can't get enough of.

The Joker

September 9, 2009

Siete leguas reposado tequila
Velvet Falernum
apple cider
lime juice

Shake, fine strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a lime half-moon.

Velvet Falernum is a lime-clove liqueur that adds complexity and viscosity to cocktails. It's strange on it's own, but tasty in certain situations.

Highlander

September 7, 2009

Aberlour single-malt scotch
apple cider
lemon
honey
Fee's Brothers Old-fashioned bitters

Shake and strain into a bucket. Garnish with a lemon chip.

Some consider it blasphemy to use a single-malt scotch in a cocktail, but since we're all godless pagans, we can do whatever we want, as long as it's tasty. Heh heh!

Black Mamba

September 6, 2009

Torres brandy
lemon
blackberry simple syrup
small chunk of orange
safron/cardamom bitters

Shake and fine strain into a cocktail glass which has a half rim of lemon-verbena sugar.

Delicious and summery. We make the saffron-cardamom bitter in house using a recipe given to us by Nopa's own Neya White.

Pocket Jacks

September 5, 2009

Buffalo Trace bourbon
Nonino Amaro
apple cider
lemon
Regan's orange bitters

Combine ingredients, shake and strain into a collins glass. Garnish with a lemon ribbon.

In Texas Hold 'em, never overplay pocket jacks. They are certainly worth a good preflop raise, but if you see an ace, queen or king on the flop, better watch your step. Remember: Many players will call pre-flop with an ace-rag, and if they connect, you better chuck those hooks.

Oh, sorry. This was meant for my poker blog. The drink was pretty tasty, though.

Rhubarb Margarita

September 4, 2009

Partida reposado tequila
Fee's Brothers Rhubarb Bitters
lime
agave nectar

Combine ingredients, shake like crazy, and serve in a bucket. Garnish with a lime wedge.

Nothing too complex here.... just cool refreshing goodness.

Red Carpet

September 3, 2009

Boodle's gin
Carpano Antica formula vermouth
strawberry
lemon

Muddle the berry, shake and fine strain. Serve in a bucket with a strawberry garnish.

Carpano is magic.

Oh Sherry

September 2, 2009

Partida reposado tequila
Hidalgo manzanilla sherry
Benedictine
strawberry
lemon

Muddle the strawberry, combine ingredients, shake and fine strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a lemon ribbon.

"You shoulda been gone! Knowin' how I made you feel"... I, for one, hate Journey, but when you're desperate for a name for your cocktail, you'll take just about anything.

Femme Fatale

September 1, 2009

Hendrick's gin
Lillet Blanc
strawberry
cucumber
lemon juice
Peychaud's bitters

Muddle strawberry and cucumber with a little sugar. Combine ingredients, shake, fine-strain, and serve up. Garnish with a thin cucumber slice.

This light and summery beverage could be trouble, because downing four per hour would be no problem... not that we would know.

The Countess

August 31, 2009

Hendrick's gin
Campari
lemon juice
watermelon
terragon

Muddle melon ant terragon, shake ingredients, fine-strain and serve up. Garnish with an orange ribbon.

A little like a Negroni, but a little more feminine. The Negroni was supposedly created by General Pascal Olivier Count de Negroni, so we thought a feminine twist on the name was appropriate.

Sweet Heat

August 30, 2009

Barsol pisco
Aperol
watermelon
serano chilie
lime juice

Muddle watermelon, combine ingredients, fine-strain and serve up. Garnish with a terragon leaf.

Nothing like sweet, tart and spicy to help you cool off on a hot San Francisco night.

Austin Collins

August 29, 2009

Tito's vodka
crenshaw melon
lemon juice
orange juice
Angostura bitters

Muddle melon, combine ingredients, shake and fine strain in to a collins glass. Garnish with a lemon half-moon.
